Booking

The CP Queenstown is a new property for IC Hotels group, having previously been branded as the Park Royal. Initially I was unable to book a revenue stay as the hotel was still being refurbished, but a couple of months beforehand I was able to book 3 nights at NZD178 per night. With my platinum status I got an upgrade to a top level floor with lake views (although I had to ask for this at check-in).

Arrival

At the time of my stay, the property was still being extensively refurbished and lacked a proper lobby area. The entrance was through a builders' door, which at one point during my stay I found to be closed and un-openable from the outside and it was pouring down. Frantic banging on the window soon got me in, but it didn't exactly fill me with confidence. However, the development did look as though it would provide a very nice lobby area when complete.

The hotel location is unbeatable. Right in the heart of Queenstown, with the shopping and adventure activities within easy walking distance. The location also affords great view of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables.

Room - Lake View Room (701)

The hotel is designed in two blocks of terraces and I was on the top level (7). Each room has a largish balcony and good views for the lake, although the view was impeded by the back of the elevator housing for the front block.

The room was brand new and very nicely done. A new LCD TV was located on the wall above the work desk. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom modern and well-equipped. I'll let the photos do the talking.
