Booking
As I had arranged to stay with a friend in
Auckland, I decided to upscale my stay at the IC Wellington by booking a
Club Floor room for NZD 279 or so. Club access is not a privilege for
Royal Ambassadors at the IC Wellington. I received an upgrade to a Spa
Room on the Club Floor.
Spa Room - Club Floor
Situated on the corner of the building, the
room was strangely shaped (the corner is not a right angle, but rather
part of a hexagonal design) and was really like a junior suite. Looking
at the fire escape plan, it looked considerably bigger than the other
rooms on the floor. The room was kind of wrapped round the bathroom
which took up the central part of the space. The bathroom was amazing,
as befits a "spa" room, with a large triangular jacuzzi bath, a separate
walk-in shower with two shower heads on opposing wall (simply too
wonderful to explain) and surely one of the most intriguing features of
any IC bathroom anywhere in the world - an IC Wellington branded rubber
duck!!

The welcome gift was a bottle of Oxford
Landing red wine, two bottles of mineral water and a well wrapped basket
of fruit.

Club Lounge
I must say that I found the Club lounge to
be somewhat disappointing, both in terms of size (clearly the smallest
I've so far seen) and product offered. The food and drink layout was
quite small and the lounge was quite well used. There was also two
fairly ropey internet terminals. Given the free mini bar available to
Royal Ambassadors and the number of good restaurants in Wellington
(including the IC's own) I would say that paying extra for this Club is
probably bad value for money.
